It's Getting HOT Out There... Get Out Your Painting Gear!

June 27, 2016

So it's HOT outside!!!

But, I am guessing you already know that! As, Summer moves on and the temperatures climb there are some days it doesn't feel like going outside is the right idea...at all!

But, WHAT TO DO...WHAT TO DO??? Well we just might have a few suggestions to peak your interest.

So, come along with me as we check out...

5 COOL Indoor Painting Projects to do when it's HOT...

1   Do it with an ACCENT WALL !

Some people say the accent wall has fallen out of vogue and has become 'passe. Well, sorry but we beg to differ!

Done right an accent wall can be a great , well accent... it's that simple. It lets you be brave and bold without going over the top! It lets you bring a color that might be too dark, too bright, or too something for a whole room.

So grab a qt or gallon of something you love that is maybe too dark or too bright and bold for the whole room. Or even get wild with horizontal stripes, chevron, or even an over scale damask stencil!

Pick an area like an entry wall, a stairway wall, the backsplash, the wall behind the bed or a gallery accent wall space (see #3) and get started!

Feeling less than inspired? Sorry! Check out PINTEREST board called "Do it with an ACCENT" (haha yes, I know) by clicking the logo below:

2  It's a Great Feeling: Color on the Ceiling !

The ceiling... the 5th wall... call it what you will!

Color on the ceiling, be it the same as the walls, a pretty pastel shade, and something... much bolder (see above, if you missed just how cool it is!) A colored ceiling can do wonders for a room... even if the walls are white or pale!

So if you have a room that just needs something... from above maybe! Think about giving this a try! Some prep lots of drop clothes and covering i.e., and 2 coats in an afternoon and your in business!

Again for more on the matter or for a little visual inspiration and courage... Check out our PINTEREST board "what a great feeling...put some color on the ceiling :)" by clicking the logo below:

3 Open a Gallery (wall) !

Ah, the Gallery wall! It can be as simple as showing off one bold piece of artwork (see above) to creating an assemblage of many different pieces of different types and sorts.

To get started, look around your home for spaces that could use this magic touch. Maybe it's a lack-luster hallway or stairway or entry that could use some panache. Maybe it's a more focal wall in the bedroom, dining room, or living room that could go from plain to something truly special.

After, you have picked your spot look for artwork. Shop your home first and remember you can always add to it  as those special pieces come along! Look for all kinds of interesting things to hang on the wall and remember your not limited to paintings and prints. Even make your own art if you feel inspired!

Then think COLOR! When making a gallery wall it important to pick the right color to use as a back drop. I won't say there are rules but if there were "rules" they might go a little something like this:

For art that is more neutral & light:

pick a background color that is colorful light-medium-dark

                                                         depending on your desire

                                                                                                   or

pick a background color that is medium to dark neutral for

                                                         contrast

For art that is more neutral & dark:

pick a background color that is colorful light to medium

                                                                                                   or

pick a background color that is light to medium neutral for

                                                         contrast

For art that is more colorful & light:

pick a background color that is toned* color medium to dark

as desired (*think muted shade of colors in art)

                                                                                                   or

pick a background color that is white to off-whites to

medium to dark neutral for contrast
